OKOLIFE was released in JUNE 2019 by an incense specialty store with 200 years of history. OKOLIFE uses a “subscription-based” service system to offer people who are interested in incense, but are unable to attend classes or stores due to various circumstances, ways to enjoy incense without disrupting their rhythm of life. The packaging focuses on (1) functionality, (2) emotion and (3) experience:
(1) functionality
Uses a sliding-case: enjoy incense like you enjoy a box of chocolates; you can also check the remaining at a glance. All ingredients are listed on the back: we want everyone to enjoy our product with peace of mind.
(2) emotion
Uses monthly theme titles like “Kikumakura” and brushstroke typography to spice up the “Japanese-ness” of the product. The drawing on each packaging was inspired by the monthly scent. The aim is to expand the dialogue and communication with expressions that can be interpreted in both Japanese and Western cultures.
(3) experience
The drawing also aims to improve the incense experience; it acts as a visual cue or information that adds on to the enjoyment of scent.
