a quiet and holy little forest in the heart of Tokyo.

Built in 1920, the shrine is dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Dowager Shoken and was erected in Yoyogi for its association with His Majesty's garden and to enshrine his spirit. The vast man-made forest was created when the shrine was built but various kinds of birds and plantscoexist within the facility, showing us the beauty of the four seasons. It is an oasis in the city with its tranquility and nature that makes it hard to believe that it is part of the city of Harajuku. Festivities are held throughout the year and the number of visitors and tourists that gather at the temple on New Year's Day is usually the highest in Japan. All visitors have loved the temple for a long time since its establishment.
