Born in 1940 in Kanagawa Prefecture. Graduated from Kuwasawa Design School, and after time at Light Publicity, he founded the Katsumi Asaba Design Office in 1975.

Classic works include "Delicious Lifestyles" for Seibu Department Stores, the "Dream Road" for Suntory, ALINAMIN A for Takeda Pharmaceutical, Nagano Olympics official posters, Misawa Design Bauhaus for MISAWA HOMES, and the logo of ISSEY MIYAKE. Tokyo TDC Board Chairman, Tokyo ADC member, JAGDA Chairman, Alliance Graphique Internationale Japan representative, Design Association Chairman. Japan Table Tennis Association Councilor, 6th dan in table tennis.

He has received numerous awards including the Tokyo TDC Award, Mainichi Design Award, Japan Academy Award for Best Artwork, Tokyo ADC Award Grand Prix, Yusaku Kamekura Award, Purple Ribbon Medal, and the Order of the Rising Sun.
