Jiyoun Kim
Jiyoun Kim, native of Seoul, Korea, practiced drawing and music ever since he was old enough to enjoy them. That profound love of art helped him develop his specific taste as an artist and a designer. Seoul, a global metro city and capital of Korea, gave Kim, who was a college student, many chances such as Sky Designer’s Community to experience production and design process early on.
After graduating Hong-Ik Univ., he worked at then a leading mobile phone maker Pantech for 5 years as a designer for products aimed for AT&T and Verizon. During that time, 6 of his designs, including Calix and Flex, were mass produced. What differentiated his work is the fact that most of it was proposed to providers with prototype design rather than ordered to be made. Meanwhile, through his website Jiyoun Kim Studio, he handled many clients’ tasks as well as his own artwork projects.
In 2010, he founded living product design group mobject, designing experimental furniture and lighting products and participating in various exhibitions.
2014, he graduated Sungkyunkwan University Graduate School of Business with a master’s degree. His next move was to join OTR as founder and design director, a new organization led by Hyunjong Lee, CCO of LG Group’s advertising agency HSAd, which aimed to develop a new wholistic approach of product development and marketing. At OTR, his experience vastly grew from product designing to service planning, branding, and executing marketing campaigns.
2018, after more than 10 years of working experience, he established his own company Jiyoun Kim Studio in Seoul, Korea. He tirelessly works as chief designer of Jiyoun Kim Studio while serving as adjunct professor of industrial design department at Konkuk University.
